A Guide on Teaching Your Canine to Love His Crate.

Although there are a lot of people who do not completely understand the need for crate training, more people are learning. In order to crate train your dog with success you need to really learn how to do it. Without doing research, you can just be wasting time while trying to train your dog. Crate training a dog does not come instinctively.

Firstly, you need to find out the what size crate you need to properly crate train your dog. There are various sizes for a good reason. You may feel that your dogs needs an oversized crate for extra room, that is not the right thing to do. That is of course unless you have a large dog. The best crate to get for your pet is one that is tall and long enough for your pet to move around comfortably. Getting a really big crate entirely defeats the purpose.

A large component of this instruction is that you will gain a far greater grasp on the housebreaking method. If you keep your dog in a crate that’s too large, it will never be housebroken because it can easily go to the bathroom on one end and lie down on the other end. Dogs generally do not use the bathroom on the spot where they lay down. If you want to make sure your dog will not go to the restroom, then a small crate will do the trick.

you are doing when the dog is outside of the crate as well.

Once you let your dog out of the crate you need to take it outside, if this is the potty spot, so that it can go to the bathroom. Compliment your dog for doing something good and go on with your day. Do not confine a dog in the crate over long periods of time with water and food.

You have to make sure that there are no rough edges on the sides where the dog can injure itself. If a dog is kept in a crate for prolonged periods of time that it gets stressed, the dog will try to escape. If it gets cut then he or she may get an infection. When you train a dog, you must also pay attention to safety to properly do your job.

you should never use the crate to punish your dog or puppy. Do not send your dog there when it has done something wrong. Making your dog feel anxiety about the crate is not how to train it. You want that crate to be its comfort zone or its little den. If it is a place that it feels safe and secure in, it will not mind being left there while you go to work. If you are consistent with crate training you will have your dog housebroken in no time.
