One of the best things about owning a dog is that they can fix just about any problem you may have. If you’re sad, a dog is happy to comfort you, and let you rattle off all your problems to their ever available ears. If you’re full of energy, a dog is happy to take you for a run or walk, granted you bring travel dog water bowls with you, speeding up or slowing town to your pace at any given moment. Dogs are always there to keep you company or play a game when you are lonely. There is a reason the dog is known as the best friend of humans – they are ready to meet you at your level at any given time. Dogs are great for children, the disabled, and the elderly and everyone in between.

When my husband gets home from the office, the dog is more than likely to make him happy, even more so than my meatloaf. We have a beautiful Great Dane by the name of Cody. His beautiful face seems to smile all the time, and his coat is so soft I will lay next to him on any one of the beds for large dogs we got for him. You can tell he has more energy than even I can believe, just by watching how much his tail wags. Cody can seem like a lot of work from time to time, since we have to brush him and feed him and make sure he has plenty of exercise, but he loves to ride in the car so he’s easy to take with us on trips to the mountains or to the beach.

Cody will always be a part of the family – he’s our responsibility and we treat him better than some of our friends, but he repays us with unconditional love and joy that is hard to find elsewhere.

Society as we know it has developed a great dependence on dogs! People do not use dogs merely for companionship. Dogs are loyal guards of our families and our businesses. Service dogs help not only the blind, but for people with various types of health problems that prevent them from being able to accomplish everyday tasks that the dog will help with. Canines are very good at learning tasks that make them both hard workers and loyal companions. Our police use dogs in law enforcement and in this case the dog is totally dedicating their life to work just as the officer is that is their handler. They also make sure they bring the appropriate dog travel supplies when cruising the streets.

Dogs are used throughout the military and government in similar ways. You’ve probably noticed that dogs have a place in entertainment as well. They are used for commercials, TV shows, and movies. Think about how many times you’ve seen a dog in the movies! They are highly trainable and will gladly show off what they learn. But they also love to relax, chewing on dog squeaky toys, and just enjoying being a dog. We also see dogs in shows throughout the world. These dogs show either excellence in skill or have an exactness of the breed characteristics. This too provides entertainment for the audience and a devotion to the chosen breed. Dogs have varying characteristics that allow them to be more suitable for certain jobs or tasks.

Most dogs are more than suitable as companions, however! This is a job the dog takes on in addition to any other job given. A dog will put forth all the effort they possibly can just to get your approval. Their greatest reward is the words “Good Dog” and the greatest reprimand that can be given is “Bad Dog”. Any dog appreciates a good treat, but a kind word and a pat on the head is what they really crave. This is something that can be given by children as well as adults. That is probably why we grow up loving our dogs and later have dogs as part of our families when we are grown and have children of our own. Then the cycle of happiness continues for the following generation.

In lieu of the difficult job of brushing a dog’s teeth, conscientious owners keep their dogs’ teeth clean with dog bones. The chewing action can mechanically clean off debris and tartar from dogs’ teeth. Not only do they provide your dog some good activity, but dogs love all the different varieties.

One example of a potentially dangerous dog treat is dog rawhide. Dogs love the fact that it tastes like meat, but face a choking hazard as pieces of rawhide separate from the treat. Hard rawhide pieces can also scrape your dog’s esophagus or throat when he swallows. Rawhide can sometimes block your dog’s intestines. Cow hooves, while beloved by dogs, can cause some of the same problems as rawhide. In addition to those perils, they are sometimes so hard that they can crack your dog’s teeth. There are safer dog bones for your furry friend to enjoy. Especially in this age of all-natural products, you can find many different kinds of dog treats that are healthy for your dog and that don’t pose so many potential risks.

Nylabones are made from nylon, as their name would imply. They are very strong. Unlike rawhide, they will not break into chunks or splinter. The whole bone is digestible, and even aggressive chewers will have a good time with a nylon bone. Once your dog has chewed a Nylabone into a little stump, pitch that piece and get him a new dog bone.

One brand of highly digestible and low-fat fake pig ears are called Better than Ears. They really are better than pig’s ears, because they are made from healthy ingredients like wheat bran and soy flour. Dogs adore Better than Ears. They just don’t last!

There are some times to give your dog bones as chews, and times to avoid it. Never give your dog chicken bones. They are prone to splintering, or becoming lodged in your dog’s esophagus.

Compressed rawhide, on the other hand, is not dangerous like regular rawhide. The rawhide bone is dense due to compressed layers of beef hide. They can last up to five times longer than regular rawhide dog bones.

Check the ingredients and take a look at the bones when you’re buying dog treats for your little buddy. If they look greasy to you, they aren’t healthy for your dog. When you give your dog a new bone to chew on, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out. Throw it away if you see splinters or some other reason that it may be dangerous for your dog.
